Jacob Aue Sobol

Jacob Aue Sobol was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1976. He lived and worked in Greenland 1999-2002, Guatemala 2004-2005, Tokyo 2006-2008, Bangkok 2007, Copenhagen 2009-2012, Milwaukee 2013, Siberia 2014-2016. In 2017 he settled on an island in Southern Denmark. living there today with his wife and two kids.
In Greenland he went to live in the settlement Tiniteqilaaq. Over the next three years, he lived in this township with his Greenlandic girlfriend Sabine and her family, living the life of a fisherman and hunter. The resultant book Sabine was published in 2004 and has become a classic within photography. 18 years later, in 2022, Jacobs second book in his Greenland Trilogy “James’ House” was published by Super Labo.
His work has been shown worldwide for the past 20 years. Including exhibitions at Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco. Museum of Contemporary Art, Shanghai. Three Shadow Photography Art Centre, Beijing. Rencontre D’Arles in France and Yossi Milo Gallery in New York.
Today Jacob is represented by Polka Galerie, Paris. Galerie Wouter van Leeuwen, Amsterdam. Mc2 Gallery, Milano and Super Labo, Japan. He is also a member of Magnum Photos.
