Mike O’Meally
Mike O’Meally (b.1973) is an internationally acclaimed Australian photographer whose raw, kinetic imagery has helped define the visual language of global skateboarding and street culture for over three decades.
Born in Sydney and later embedding himself deeply within the seminal skate scenes of New York, Los Angeles, and London, O’Meally approaches his subjects with the instincts of a classic photojournalist. His work transcends traditional action photography, capturing the grit, camaraderie, and distinct architectural poetry of the urban landscape. As a longtime senior photographer for iconic publications like Transworld Skateboarding, his lens has documented generations of the world’s most influential subcultural icons.
O’Meally’s debut monograph with SUPER LABO, 9/12, showcases his ability to find human truth within historical gravity. Shot entirely on black-and-white film in Lower Manhattan the day after September 11, 2001, the project stands as a haunting yet resilient testament to downtown youth culture navigating a world forever changed.
